Leeds United are preparing for another crucial summer transfer window as they look to build on their successful return to the Premier League. After avoiding relegation last season, the Whites are now gearing up for a second consecutive campaign in the top flight.
Daniel Farke has already urged the club’s hierarchy to back him in the transfer market, stressing the importance of strengthening the squad ahead of the new season.
Leeds supporters will remember what happened in 2020 when Marcelo Bielsa guided the club to safety but was not sufficiently backed the following summer. The lack of investment eventually caught up with the team, culminating in relegation a few years later.
According to TEAMtalk, Leeds have identified four priority positions this summer: a goalkeeper, a left-sided defender, a striker, and a creative midfielder capable of operating out wide.
The goalkeeping department could undergo major changes at Elland Road. Several players are out of contract, and if Karl Darlow does not agree to a new deal, Leeds may be forced into the market for a new No.1.
One player firmly on Leeds’ radar is Harry Wilson. The Fulham star fits the profile Daniel Farke is seeking, offering creativity while also being effective in wide areas. Wilson contributed 11 goals and eight assists in all competitions last season.
Leeds Live reports that Leeds United are currently the bookmakers’ favourites to sign the Welsh international ahead of Aston Villa.
Gabriel Gudmundsson’s injury issues during the latter stages of last season also highlighted the need for greater depth on the left side. While the Swedish defender impressed with his balance of defensive solidity and attacking progression, Leeds lacked an adequate backup option.
The latest update on Wilson’s future suggests the race remains wide open. Fulham have offered him a new contract, but with just weeks remaining before his current deal expires, he has yet to make a decision.
The 28-year-old has also been linked with a move to Portugal following Marco Silva’s appointment as Benfica head coach, with reports suggesting Silva could attempt to bring Wilson with him.
At this stage, Leeds remain interested, but no formal offer has been submitted. Should the Whites secure Wilson’s signature, he would address one of the club’s key objectives heading into next season.
For Daniel Farke, adding a genuine playmaker capable of delivering goals and assists could prove vital if Leeds are to establish themselves as a stable Premier League side.
