Leeds United are viewing next season as a crucial step towards establishing themselves as a permanent Premier League club. The 49ers have ambitious plans for the future, with the goal of making Leeds a regular top-flight side.
That vision is also behind the ongoing Elland Road expansion project.
Since taking over, the ownership group’s priority has been clear: get Leeds back into the Premier League and ensure they stay there. Appointing Daniel Farke after the club’s relegation in 2023 was one of the first major steps towards achieving promotion.
Now that the Whites have successfully survived their first season back in the Premier League, attention has turned to strengthening the squad to avoid another relegation battle.
A number of key decisions will have to be made in the transfer market this summer, and one position Leeds are eager to address is goalkeeper.
According to TEAMtalk, Leeds remain interested in Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope. The experienced England international has recently been linked with a move to Elland Road as the club assesses its options between the posts.
The report claims Newcastle have set an asking price of just £5 million for the 34-year-old and are willing to let him leave if he decides to move on.
Eddie Howe’s side have already strengthened in the goalkeeping department after signing French goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen for £24 million.
For Leeds, the deal represents excellent value.
The Whites have shown in recent transfer windows that they can take advantage of opportunities in the market. Last summer, they signed one of Germany’s standout midfielders for less than £20 million, brought in a starting left-back for around £11 million, and secured Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer.
At £5 million, Nick Pope is a transfer Leeds can comfortably afford.
With Karl Darlow’s contract due to expire in just two weeks and his future still uncertain despite having an offer on the table, the 49ers should act quickly to complete a deal for Pope.
After two years of uncertainty in the position, signing the England goalkeeper could finally solve Leeds United’s goalkeeping problem.
