Leeds United are facing increasing uncertainty over Karl Darlow’s future as Manchester United intensify their interest in signing the experienced goalkeeper on a free transfer this summer.
Darlow displaced Lucas Perri as Leeds’ first-choice goalkeeper during the second half of last season and delivered a series of impressive performances, earning a nomination for the Premier League Save of the Season award.

With his current contract due to expire at the end of the month, Leeds have been working to secure Darlow on a new deal. However, negotiations have yet to produce an agreement, and Manchester United’s growing interest is complicating the situation.
Leeds remain keen to retain the Welsh international, but plans are already being put in place should he leave. The club have begun exploring options and are now considering a move for a highly-rated World Cup goalkeeper.
Zion Suzuki emerges as Leeds target
Parma paid just under £9m to sign Zion Suzuki from Sint-Truiden in the summer of 2024, despite interest from several bigger clubs at the time. The Japanese international opted for a move to Italy and has continued his development over the last two seasons.
Suzuki’s potential has long been recognised, and after establishing himself in Serie A, he now appears ready for the next stage of his career.
His impressive display in Japan’s 2-2 draw with the Netherlands attracted further attention, while Aston Villa are among the clubs monitoring his situation ahead of the summer window.
According to SportItalia journalist Gianluigi Longari, Leeds have now entered the race to sign Suzuki.
The Whites are actively searching for a new goalkeeper and have already made enquiries to gather further information on the Japanese international.
While discussions remain at an early stage, Leeds are seriously considering a move and view Suzuki as a potential successor to Darlow.
Parma are willing to listen to offers but are expected to demand around £35m, hoping to secure a significant profit on the fee they paid two years ago.
Darlow now edging towards exit
Leeds have held discussions with Darlow’s representatives regarding a contract extension, and after his performances last season, many expected negotiations to progress smoothly.
However, with no agreement yet reached, there is growing belief that Manchester United’s interest may have influenced the goalkeeper’s thinking.
The Red Devils are stepping up their search for a new backup goalkeeper and have already made contact to assess the terms of a possible deal.
Manchester United are likely to be able to offer Darlow a more lucrative contract than Leeds. Given that this could be one of the final major deals of his career, the financial package may prove decisive.
Leeds hope the prospect of regular first-team football will still work in their favour, but Darlow’s reluctance to commit suggests an exit from Elland Road is becoming increasingly likely.
