🚨 BREAKING: Celtic Told to ‘Cash In Now’ as £3-4m Blackburn Rovers Transfer Raid Explodes!
🚨 BREAKING: Celtic Told to ‘Cash In Now’ as £3-4m Blackburn Rovers Transfer Raid Explodes!
Blackburn Rovers could be forced into a major decision before the transfer window closes, with Celtic reportedly showing interest in goalkeeper Balazs Toth.
Rovers began their Championship campaign with an impressive display against Wolves on Friday night and came agonisingly close to securing a shock victory before Raul Jimenez’s stoppage-time penalty denied them all three points.
Despite the late disappointment, Tony Mowbray’s side showed plenty of character, giving supporters reasons to be optimistic about the season ahead.
Blackburn have made only a handful of additions this summer, bringing in Moussa Baradji, Jayden Fevrier and Sam Morsy. However, the club could still see another important player leave Ewood Park before the transfer deadline.
Celtic Eye £3-4m Move for Blackburn’s Number One
The player attracting attention is Balazs Toth, who has established himself as Blackburn’s first-choice goalkeeper.
The Hungary international started both the EFL Cup clash with Burton Albion and the Championship opener against Wolves, continuing his position ahead of fellow goalkeeper Aynsley Pears.
Toth made 34 league appearances last season despite missing part of the campaign following knee surgery, and his performances have reportedly attracted interest from Scottish champions Celtic.
Reports indicate that Blackburn could be willing to consider an offer in the region of £3-4 million for the 28-year-old.
That valuation could become particularly significant given Toth’s contract situation, with the goalkeeper having just 12 months remaining on his current deal.
Blackburn supporter and Football League World pundit Simon Middleshurst believes the club could ultimately decide that selling represents sensible business.
«“Ideally, we’d probably like a bit more, but then again he’s only got 12 months left on his contract, so £3-4m still wouldn’t be too bad,” Middleshurst said.»
«“We’d probably want to cash in if that is the case.”»
He also pointed to Blackburn’s previous experience with Sammie Szmodics, who left after Ipswich made their move shortly after the Championship season had begun.
Toth’s Wolves Display Comes Under Scrutiny
Toth’s future was already a talking point heading into Blackburn’s meeting with Wolves, but his performance on the night did little to dramatically change the situation.
According to FotMob, the Hungarian made one save and faced an expected goals on target figure of 1.19. His performance was credited with preventing 0.81 goals.
Importantly, Toth could not be blamed for Wolves’ goals and had little chance of stopping Jimenez’s stuttering penalty.
While it was a respectable outing from the goalkeeper, it was not the type of performance that would necessarily make Blackburn rethink his valuation.
Blackburn Face Major Decision Over Celtic Interest
There are two major factors Blackburn must consider before agreeing to sell their first-choice goalkeeper.
The most immediate concern is squad depth. Toth and Pears are currently the only two goalkeepers in Mowbray’s first-team squad, meaning Rovers would almost certainly need to secure a replacement before sanctioning a departure.
However, the financial argument could be difficult to ignore.
With Toth entering the final year of his contract, an offer of £3-4m could represent a strong return for Blackburn rather than risk losing him for significantly less in the future.
The transfer deadline is approaching, leaving Rovers with limited time to make their decision.
Celtic’s interest could therefore create a major transfer dilemma for Blackburn: keep their established number one for the season or cash in now while they can still command a sizeable fee.
