Nottingham Forest have slapped a hefty valuation of more than £30 million on key defender following approaches from Premier League rivals, as the summer transfer window heats up.
The 25-year-old Wales international has emerged as a prime target for several top-flight clubs, with Manchester United and Newcastle United among those understood to have registered serious interest in recent days. Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with a potential move for the versatile full-back.
Sources close to the situation indicate that Forest were contacted by at least two clubs inquiring about Williams’ availability, prompting the Midlands club to firmly outline their stance. While the player still has several years remaining on his contract — which was extended until 2029 last summer — the club is determined not to lose him on the cheap and has set a price tag well north of £30m to deter suitors.

Williams, who joined Forest from Liverpool in a £17m deal in 2022, has developed into one of the most consistent performers at the City Ground. Capable of operating at both right-back and left-back, his attacking flair, defensive solidity, and work rate have made him a fan favourite and a regular for his country.
A source familiar with the negotiations told reporters:
“Neco has been outstanding for Forest and they see him as a vital part of their plans. They’re open to improving his terms further, but any club wanting to take him away will have to pay a premium that reflects his importance and current market value.”
Despite the interest, Forest remain confident of retaining Williams. Talks over a new improved contract are said to be progressing positively, with the club eager to ward off advances and build around their homegrown talent. Williams himself is believed to be happy at the City Ground but open to a new challenge if the right opportunity arises at a bigger club.
Manchester United, in particular, are understood to view the former Liverpool academy graduate as an attractive option to bolster their defensive options, with the move potentially appealing to the player. Newcastle have also shown admiration for his profile as they look to strengthen their squad.
As the transfer deadline approaches, all eyes will be on whether any club is willing to meet Forest’s ambitious demands or if the Trentside outfit can persuade their star defender to commit his long-term future to the club.
Forest fans will be hoping the speculation leads to a swift resolution and a new deal that keeps their reliable full-back in red. For now, the ball remains firmly in the suitors’ court.
