Harry Giles III, a center, was signed by the Los Angeles Lakers on a two-way deal on Saturday.
Before being dismissed on February 8, Giles, 25, averaged 3.4 points and 1.6 rebounds in 16 games with the Brooklyn Nets this season.
Giles, who was selected with the 20th overall choice in the 2017 NBA Draft, has also spent four years as a player with the Sacramento Kings and Portland Trail Blazers. Renowned high school prospect, he spent one season as a player at Duke from 2016 to 2017.
Giles was brought in to provide further depth to the frontcourt, since Colin Castleton (fractured wrist) and Christian Wood (knee) were sidelined. This was disclosed by Lakers coach Darvin Ham.
Before the Lakers’ home game against the Denver Nuggets, Ham stated, “He was available, saw the opportunity to have gained a little bit of insurance at that position with a couple of guys out ailing.” “I think there’s still a lot of possibility for him. We have the coaches to attempt to help him get better; he just has to get started on the appropriate program.”
