
Wolves have paid an emotional tribute following the tragic death of former academy player Ethan McLeod, who has passed away at the age of 21.
Tragic Circumstances Confirmed by Macclesfield
Macclesfield Town confirmed on Wednesday that McLeod was involved in a fatal car accident on the M1 while travelling home from a match at Bedford Town.
In a deeply moving statement, the club described the loss as devastating, praising McLeod not only for his talent but for his character and personality.
“Ethan was an incredibly talented and well-respected member of our First Team Squad… his infectious personality endeared him to everyone he came into contact with,” the club said.
Macclesfield added that McLeod’s legacy would “never fade,” describing him as a player and person who lifted those around him both on and off the pitch.
Wolves Pay Poignant Tribute
Wolves also released a heartfelt statement, remembering McLeod’s long connection to the club.
“We are heartbroken by the tragic passing of Ethan McLeod at the age of 21,” Wolves wrote.
“Ethan joined Wolves Academy at seven-years-old and went on to sign professional terms at the club.”
The club confirmed that Ethan’s younger brother, Conor, who is currently part of Wolves’ under-21 squad, will be fully supported during this difficult time.
Wolves also announced that a minute’s silence will be observed at Saturday’s Premier League fixture against Brentford in Ethan’s honour.
Ethan McLeod’s Career Path
McLeod spent a decade in Wolves’ youth system and had loan spells with Alvechurch and Rushall Olympic before leaving the club in September 2024.
He joined Macclesfield earlier this year and made three appearances, scoring once since his arrival in July.

Tributes poured in from across the footballing pyramid, with clubs including Crystal Palace, Leeds United, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Charlton Athletic offering their condolences.
Rushall Olympic paid tribute to McLeod’s impact, recalling his decisive penalty that sent them into the FA Cup First Round last season.
“His name will be etched into the history books of our club forever,” they wrote.
Players and Coaches Share Emotional Messages
Several players took to social media to honour McLeod, including former Wolves youth teammate Harry Birtwhistle, who wrote:
“The best person I ever met in football.”
Messages were also shared by Dane Scarlett, Kaide Gordon, Lino Sousa, Cody Johnson, Nico O’Reilly, and others. Coaches from Baller League, including Tobjizzle and Sharky, also paid tribute following McLeod’s involvement with VZN FC earlier this year.
