Leeds United face several key decisions this summer as they prepare their squad for the upcoming campaign, but Manchester United could be set to disrupt some of those plans.
There is a growing sense of optimism around Elland Road after Leeds comfortably secured Premier League survival and finished 14th in their first season back in the top flight.
Focus has now shifted to the transfer market, with the club eager to recruit players capable of helping the team progress further. Daniel Farke is determined to strengthen his squad ahead of the 2026/27 season, and Leeds are looking to build on last year’s achievements rather than simply preserve their Premier League status.
One area still causing concern is the goalkeeping department, and the latest report from The Athletic is unlikely to ease those worries for Leeds officials.
Manchester United targeting Karl Darlow
Karl Darlow is yet to commit his future to Leeds, and as things stand, the goalkeeper will become a free agent when his contract expires at the end of June.
According to The Athletic’s Beren Cross and colleagues, Manchester United are considering a move for the experienced shot-stopper during the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils are in the market for a reliable deputy to Senne Lammens, and Darlow has emerged as an attractive option due to both his experience and contract situation.
The Welsh goalkeeper impressed during his appearances for Leeds last season, attracting attention from across the Premier League. Manchester United are now pushing to secure his signature and are expected to hold discussions with his representatives in an effort to convince him to make the switch to Old Trafford on a free transfer.
Leeds remain hopeful of keeping Darlow and are keen for him to sign a new deal. However, Manchester United’s interest has complicated negotiations and increased the pressure on the Yorkshire club.
Leeds must make a decision
Leeds have been weighing up the possibility of entering next season with Darlow and Perri as their goalkeeping options, avoiding the need to invest in another goalkeeper.
However, Perri has failed to fully convince, and if Darlow departs, Leeds will almost certainly be forced into the market for a new number one.
The club had hoped to tie Darlow down to a new contract before addressing Perri’s future. Leeds are believed to be open to offers for the Brazilian, but losing the Welshman would represent a significant setback to their summer plans.
Leeds have also been strongly linked with Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope, who has just one year remaining on his current contract at St James’ Park.
