Former Leeds United man set for huge offers after World Cup masterclass

Leeds United players are experiencing very different fortunes at the World Cup as the competition continues to deliver unexpected results and standout displays.

Gabriel Gudmundsson received praise despite Sweden suffering a heavy 5-1 defeat to the Netherlands on Sunday, while Ao Tanaka completed the full match in Japan’s impressive 4-0 victory over Tunisia.

Noah Okafor, meanwhile, is enduring a frustrating tournament with Switzerland. The Leeds forward has yet to make an appearance at the World Cup.

However, one former Leeds star is attracting major attention and could secure a huge transfer this summer following his performances in the group stage.

Crysencio Summerville shines again

The Netherlands have collected four points from their opening two matches, with Crysencio Summerville finding the net in both encounters.

After scoring in the 2-2 draw against Japan, the former Leeds winger was on target again against Sweden, firing a superb long-range effort into the bottom-right corner.

Summerville is widely expected to leave West Ham this summer following the club’s relegation. His recent displays, however, are likely to spark even greater interest in his services.

Manchester United remain keen on signing the Dutch international and are pushing to bring him to Old Trafford during the current transfer window.

Several other clubs are also monitoring the winger, and his World Cup performances have further strengthened his reputation.

Despite their relegation, West Ham are in a strong negotiating position and are hoping to command a fee in the region of £50 million for Summerville.

The Dutchman is reportedly open to joining Manchester United and has authorised his representatives to begin discussions with the Premier League giants.

Leeds return now looks impossible

Earlier this summer, reports suggested Leeds were exploring the possibility of bringing Summerville back to Elland Road following West Ham’s drop into the Championship.

The winger remains highly regarded at Leeds, and there was genuine interest in a potential reunion. However, that prospect now appears extremely unlikely.

West Ham’s £50 million asking price had already made a return difficult, and Summerville’s excellent World Cup form has only pushed him further out of Leeds’ reach.

With clubs such as Manchester United able to offer significantly higher wages and Champions League football, a move back to Elland Road no longer appears realistic.

Leeds have since shifted their focus elsewhere and are currently pursuing deals for Harry Wilson and Julian Brandt.
