“That Was Too Toxic” — Chris Boyd Slams Celtic Chant Directed at Danny Röhl

The fallout from the latest Old Firm clash has continued long after the final whistle, but this time the attention has shifted away from the football and onto the atmosphere inside the stadium.

Former Rangers striker and football pundit Chris Boyd has strongly criticized a section of Celtic supporters following chants aimed directly at Rangers manager Danny Röhl during the heated derby encounter.

Speaking during post-match analysis, Boyd did not hold back in his reaction.

> “That was too toxic,” Boyd said.
“They called it revenge, but that was inhuman.”

The controversial chants quickly became one of the biggest talking points after the match, with several pundits openly disagreeing over whether the atmosphere crossed the line from football rivalry into personal abuse.

Boyd argued that banter between rival clubs has always been part of football culture, especially in high-intensity derbies like Celtic vs Rangers, but insisted that targeting an individual manager personally was unacceptable.

> “You can banter the club — that’s football,” he added.
“But calling out the manager like that? That’s inhumane.”

The comments sparked immediate debate across Scottish football media, with some pundits agreeing that emotions inside Old Firm fixtures can sometimes become excessive, while others defended the chants as part of the rivalry’s intense history.

Several analysts on the broadcast panel appeared divided, with discussions focusing on where football supporters should draw the line between passionate support and personal attacks.

Despite the controversy, the match itself remained fiercely competitive, with emotions running high throughout the encounter both on and off the pitch. However, the chants directed at Röhl overshadowed parts of the post-match discussion and quickly spread across social media.

So far, neither Celtic F.C. nor Danny Röhl has officially commented on the incident.
