Leeds United’s survival this season has not happened by accident — it has been built on leadership, discipline, and togetherness from top to bottom.
Daniel Farke created a squad mentality where every player bought into the bigger picture, and no one represented that mindset better than captain Ethan Ampadu. While Leeds were written off by many before the season began, the Welsh international helped turn Elland Road into a united and resilient group that refused to crumble under pressure.
Ampadu’s influence stretched far beyond his performances on the pitch. Whether Leeds were winning, struggling, or fighting through difficult moments, the captain consistently set the tone with his attitude, commitment, and presence around the squad. That mentality was reflected perfectly when he picked up both the Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season awards.
The contrast with Tottenham this season could hardly be clearer.
Spurs have spent much of the campaign surrounded by frustration, inconsistency, and growing tension among supporters. Injuries have certainly played a role, but leadership during difficult periods is equally important — especially from senior figures within the squad.
Cristian Romero’s absence through injury has been a major setback for Tottenham, but reports of the defender returning to Argentina before the club’s final game of the season have only increased scrutiny around the atmosphere at Spurs. While the decision may have been approved medically, it still raises questions about the image and standards being projected during such a critical moment.
At Leeds, the feeling has been completely different. The squad stayed connected, fought for one another, and never allowed heads to drop when pressure mounted. That unity became one of the club’s greatest strengths in the relegation battle.
In many ways, the difference between the two clubs this season has come down to mentality — and Ethan Ampadu has been at the centre of everything Leeds United have done right.
