The Athletic provides major update on £25m Liverpool star open to Leeds move

9p0After an impressive first season back in the Premier League, which saw them secure a comfortable 14th-place finish, Leeds United have already turned their attention towards the summer transfer window and how they can build on that progress next season.

The Whites surpassed most expectations during their return to the top flight, ensuring survival with several games to spare and establishing themselves as a solid mid-table side.

The focus has now shifted to reinforcing the squad, but Leeds must proceed carefully. With the Premier League’s Squad Cost Ratio regulations placing increased importance on financial discipline, the club will need to strike a balance between investing in new arrivals and remaining compliant with spending rules.

Leeds have been monitoring a number of proven Premier League players, and a fresh update has now emerged regarding the future of one attacking midfielder high on their shortlist.

Harvey Elliott waiting before making a decision

Leeds have been strongly linked with a move for Liverpool attacking midfielder Harvey Elliott ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old endured a disappointing loan spell at Aston Villa last season and is understood to be considering a fresh start away from Anfield as he looks to get his career back on track.

However, Liverpool’s decision to part ways with Premier League-winning manager Arne Slot last week has complicated matters.

The Reds are expected to appoint a successor in the near future, with Andoni Iraola widely tipped to take charge at Anfield.

According to The Athletic, Elliott intends to wait until Liverpool’s managerial situation is resolved before making a final decision on his future.

While the midfielder has been receptive to the possibility of joining Leeds, the impending managerial change has added a new dimension to the transfer saga.

Elliott is now prepared to consider staying at Liverpool if the incoming manager offers assurances that he will play a significant role in the club’s plans moving forward.

As a result, Leeds may have to remain patient before discovering whether a move for the midfielder will become a realistic possibility this summer.

Signing Elliott would involve a degree of risk

The former Fulham academy graduate is undoubtedly a talented attacking midfielder, but his development over the past season has been hindered by circumstances largely beyond his control.

Consequently, he has seen limited game time and may require a period of adaptation to regain full sharpness and match fitness at the beginning of next season.

Leeds previously took a calculated gamble when they signed Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and that move ultimately proved successful. A deal for Elliott would represent a similar risk, albeit one that carries a far greater financial commitment.

Unlike Calvert-Lewin, who arrived on a free transfer, Liverpool are reportedly seeking around £25 million before entertaining offers for Elliott this summer.

Given the size of the investment required, the transfer would become significantly more appealing for Leeds if Liverpool were willing to lower their valuation or include favourable terms in any potential agreement.
