Martin O’Neill has signed a one-year deal to remain as Celtic manager into the 2026-27 season.

O’Neill lead the Glasgow club to the League and Cup double having stepped back in to the hot seat he had earlier vacated when Wilfried Nancy was handed the job on a permanent basis part of the way through last season.
When the Frenchman was sacked just 33 days later, Derry man O’Neill answered the call once more and managed to turn the defending champion’s season around, culminating in an incredible final-day league-title-clinching win over Hearts at Parkhead.
O’Neill’s fellow Irishman, Republic Of Ireland’s record caps holder Robbie Keane, had been heavily linked with the position having left his role at Ferencvaros.
Keane, who is also the national record goalscorer, enjoyed a prolific loan spell at Celtic Park in 2010 and has won league titles in Israel and Hungary as a manager.
Keane had been on the end of critisicm from certain sections of the Celtic support related to his previous association with Maccabi Tel Aviv. A statement opposing his potential appointment was said to have been signed by “dozens” of Celtic supporters groups.
