Sky Sports pundit Micah Richards has launched a passionate defence of Coventry City owner Doug King and the club’s summer transfer business, after a wave of online criticism claimed the Sky Blues were not investing properly.
In a strong statement that has quickly gained traction among fans, Richards directly addressed the negativity that has circulated in recent weeks.
“I’ve seen ‘fans’ on here in the past week criticising Doug for ‘not investing in the club’, ‘taking the profit into his back pocket’ and even saying we’re already relegated because ‘we’ve signed nobody’. They couldn’t be more wrong – where are they now?!”
Richards went further, expanding on his frustration with the early doom-mongers.
“Some people were writing this club off before the window had even properly opened. That’s the problem with modern football – too many people want instant results and jump to conclusions. Look at what has actually happened. The club has backed Frank Lampard, the manager has been given a new long-term contract, and the signings have started coming in. This is not a club sitting still.”
Recent Business Under The Spotlight
Coventry have been active since securing promotion. Permanent deals for Frank Onyeka, Loum Tchaouna and Aurèle Amenda have already been completed, while the pursuit of key targets such as Carl Rushworth continues. Lampard’s new contract until 2029 has also given the project stability.
Richards believes the early criticism has already been proven short-sighted.
“People were saying no one was coming in. Now look. Quality players are arriving, the manager is secure, and the ambition is clear. Doug King has put his money where his mouth is. Anyone still claiming the club isn’t investing needs to open their eyes.”
Confidence For The Premier League Campaign
Looking ahead to the new season, Richards expressed genuine belief that Coventry can make a real impact in the Premier League.
“I honestly think this Coventry side can go and cause problems this season. Frank Lampard knows what it takes at this level. The squad is being built properly, not just thrown together. If they continue to add the right characters and keep that promotion-winning mentality, they won’t just survive – they can push on and make life uncomfortable for a lot of teams.”
He added:
“This is a club with momentum. The fans who stayed patient are being rewarded. The ones who were ready to write them off already? They’re the ones who need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture.”
Richards’ comments have been welcomed by many Sky Blues supporters who felt the early negativity was unfair. With several deals already completed and more expected, Coventry’s summer business is beginning to take shape under Frank Lampard and Doug King.
