Sunderland’s Pursuit of Key Target Gains Momentum After Fresh Revelation

Sunderland’s recruitment team continues to cast a wide net as preparations gather pace for another campaign under Regis Le Bris, with several names linked to the Black Cats over the past week.

One player who has featured prominently in recent speculation is Geoffrey Kondogbia.

Reports from France have suggested Sunderland are exploring a move for the experienced Marseille midfielder, with claims the club are prepared to offer a salary package worth around £95,000 per week to tempt him to Wearside.

The former Sevilla, Inter Milan and Valencia man would bring considerable top-level experience if a deal could be struck.

Elsewhere, Sunderland have also been linked with Charleroi midfielder Yacine Titraoui, while reports in Spain have connected the club with Osasuna winger Victor Munoz as Le Bris looks to strengthen his attacking options.

However, it is Titraoui who remains one of the most intriguing names on Sunderland’s shortlist.

The Algeria international has enjoyed an impressive spell with Belgian side Charleroi since joining from Paradou AC in 2024.

The 22-year-old established himself as a regular in the Belgian Pro League and has continued to enhance his reputation with both club and country.

Reports this week have suggested Sunderland remain firmly interested in bringing him to England.

Now fresh information from North Africa has provided another update on the midfielder’s future.

Source close to Yacine Titraoui speaks out on Sunderland and Hull interest

According to Algerian outlet Maghreb Foot, both Sunderland and Hull City are pushing hard to sign Titraoui this summer.

The report includes comments from an alleged source close to the player, who outlined the growing interest from England, but insists his future won’t be resolved until after the World Cup.

“It is true that Sunderland and Hull City are very interested in Yacine Titraoui, but the player is currently focused on the World Cup, which is fast approaching,” said the insider.

“I won’t hide from you that I spoke with Titraoui, and he confided in me that his dream was to play in the English Premier League last season and that he doesn’t wish to play for any other team, in any other league.”

Those comments will naturally encourage Sunderland supporters given the growing competition for the ‘exceptional’ midfielder’s signature.

Recent reports have suggested Marseille are also monitoring Titraoui, while Leeds have been credited with concrete interest as they prepare for their second season back in the top flight.

Wolves were also named as suitors earlier this year, but their relegation to the Championship likely makes them outsiders in the race for Titraoui, especially given the player’s stance on a Premier League move.

Titraoui’s profile makes it easy to understand why clubs are taking notice.

A technically gifted central midfielder, he is capable of contributing in both defence and attack.

During his time at Paradou AC, he registered 12 goals and 13 assists in 86 appearances before earning his move to Belgium.

Since arriving at Charleroi, he has continued his development and has become a regular member of Algeria’s senior international setup.

While the Black Cats enjoyed a very encouraging season, the club remain determined to add depth and quality in midfield.

Titraoui’s age profile also aligns with Sunderland’s recruitment model, which has consistently targeted younger players with room for further development.

Whether Sunderland can win the race remains to be seen.

What appears increasingly clear, however, is that Sunderland’s admiration is genuine.

If the latest comments from those close to Titraoui are accurate, the Black Cats are among the clubs making the strongest push for one of Algeria’s most highly-rated young midfielders.
