Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Carl Rushworth has made a decision on his future amid strong interest from both Coventry City and Newcastle United.
The 24-year-old, who impressed during a highly successful loan spell at Coventry last season, is now ready to leave the Amex Stadium in search of regular first-team football.
Rushworth’s Clear Preference
According to sources close to the player, Rushworth has made up his mind and is firmly in favour of a return to Coventry City.
In a private conversation with his representatives, the goalkeeper is understood to have expressed a strong desire to reunite with Frank Lampard and the Sky Blues.
“Coventry feels like home to me now,” Rushworth is reported to have said.
“Last season was the best of my career so far. I played every week, I felt trusted, and I was part of something special. I want to go back there and help the club in the Premier League.”
He added:
“I’ve spoken to the manager and I know how much they want me. That means a lot. Newcastle are a big club, but my heart is set on Coventry. That’s where I want to be.”
The Battle For His Signature
Both Coventry and Newcastle have shown serious interest in the England Under-21 international. Coventry have already submitted multiple bids, while Newcastle have monitored the situation closely as they look at goalkeeping options.
However, Rushworth’s personal preference has shifted the momentum firmly towards the newly-promoted side.

“Carl has been very clear with everyone involved. He sees his future at Coventry. The relationship he built with Frank Lampard and the squad last season has played a big part in his thinking.”

Rushworth’s loan spell at the CBS Arena proved transformative. He kept 17 clean sheets and played a major role in Coventry’s Championship title triumph. The trust shown in him by Lampard, combined with the connection he formed with the fans, has left a lasting impression.
“I know what the Premier League will demand, but I also know this Coventry group,” he is said to have told confidants.
“I believe in the project and I believe in the manager. That’s why my decision is made.”
Brighton are still expected to demand a substantial fee for their highly-rated goalkeeper, with valuations ranging between £25m and £40m. Coventry remain determined to get a deal done, especially with the player now actively pushing for the move.
If an agreement can be reached between the two clubs, Rushworth could complete a permanent return to the Sky Blues before the end of the transfer window.
