Leeds United hit by devastating injury blow in Liverpool friendly

Florian Wirtz found himself unmarked and finished off a well-worked move in the box for the Reds’ second. Daniel Farke looked visibly frustrated on the touchline when Wirtz’s goal went in.

Farke decided to ring the changes at half-time, bringing on four players.

The changes worked to perfection, as Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored a brace, and Brenden Aaronson had a goal and assist to help Leeds win the game.

During Leeds’ comeback, they managed to score two goals from set pieces.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin found himself unmarked at the far post as he scored his first goal of the night. The striker also got his second from a set piece, after Seabstiaan Bornauw’s flick on.

Both goals came from throw-ins which Leeds threatened from during the game.

Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai spoke about the result, and how Daniel Farke’s side caused chaos from set pieces.

“Now we know that we conceded two goals from set pieces, we have to take care of them.”

“Last season was a season where the set pieces started to be really important.

“They (Leeds) are good at corners and long throw-ins. I think this is something we have to start to take care of better.

“I think next season is going to be same like last season, with teams focusing on these set pieces to try score goals.

“Everyone has to do their job better and then we are not going to concede these kind of goals anymore. It’s as easy as that.

“We are human beings, so we are going to make mistakes, but from hereon we have to react better.”
