West Ham United are stepping up their pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur winger Manor Solomon as they look to strengthen Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad before the new season gets underway.
With the Hammers just days away from returning to competitive action, the club is finally accelerating its transfer business after a relatively quiet summer. Despite plenty of speculation, West Ham are still waiting to complete their first major signing.
Solomon has now emerged as one of the club’s top priorities.
The London side are in a healthy financial position following the departures of Crysencio Summerville and Mateus Fernandes, deals that reportedly generated close to £150 million, giving the club significant spending power in the market.
As preparations continue for their Carabao Cup clash against Portsmouth, West Ham are actively working on several transfer targets, with Solomon among the most advanced.
According to Kat Lucas of the iPaper, West Ham currently lead the race to sign the Israeli international, edging out interest from Premier League side Hull City.
The report claims negotiations are progressing well, with an agreement potentially being reached within the next few days. Although Tottenham are believed to value Solomon at around £20 million, opening offers are expected to be closer to £10 million as talks begin.
West Ham also maintain a positive relationship with Spurs following the recent £85 million transfer of Mateus Fernandes, which could help facilitate negotiations between the two clubs.
From a tactical perspective, Solomon would address an important need in Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad.
Jarrod Bowen has committed his future to West Ham, but the club currently lack another proven wide attacker to provide balance on the opposite flank. While youngster Keiber Lamadrid remains a promising talent, he is not yet considered ready for regular Premier League football.
That makes Solomon an attractive option, as he could slot straight into the starting lineup alongside Bowen.
West Ham have also been linked with Sunderland winger Simon Adingra, but signing two wide players this summer appears unlikely. As things stand, Solomon is understood to be the club’s primary target.
The 26-year-old has already demonstrated his quality in English football, playing a key role in Leeds United’s Championship-winning campaign, and West Ham believe he has the experience and ability to make an immediate impact in the Premier League.
With a difficult opening-day trip to Burnley on the horizon, any new arrival will be expected to adapt quickly. Based on his previous performances in England, Solomon appears well-equipped to hit the ground running if a deal is completed.
