The Liverpool legend says Coventry have “no chance” of Premier League survival and that Lampard has “wasted” the club’s money on players who aren’t good enough for the top flight.

WHAT CARRAGHER SAID

Speaking on the Football Ramble podcast, Carragher didn’t hold back when asked about Coventry’s chances this season.

“Coventry? They’ve got no chance,” Carragher said bluntly. “They’ve spent nearly £100m on players who have never played at this level. Lampard is buying anyone he can get his hands on. It’s reckless. It’s scattergun. And they’ll be relegated by Christmas.”

Carragher also took aim at Lampard’s recruitment strategy, claiming the former Chelsea boss has “no idea” how to build a Premier League squad.

“I look at who they’ve signed and I just shake my head,” Carragher added. “£23m on a kid from Denmark? £22m on a goalkeeper who’s never played in the Premier League? It’s madness. Coventry are going to get absolutely destroyed this season.”

THE COVENTRY CONNECTION

Carragher has history with Coventry. Back in April 2026, when Lampard was appointed Coventry manager, Carragher was sceptical. He questioned why Lampard would take on the role, citing Wayne Rooney’s troubled stint at Birmingham City as an example of how things can go wrong when a well-liked manager departs.

Now, with Coventry back in the Premier League for the first time since 2001, Carragher is doubling down on his criticism.

What the fans don’t know is that Carragher’s attack on Coventry goes even further. Sources close to the Liverpool legend have revealed that he privately believes the Sky Blues will break the record for the lowest points total in Premier League history.

Carragher has reportedly told friends that Lampard’s £100m spending spree is “the worst transfer business I’ve ever seen” and that Coventry will be “laughing stocks” this season.

THE REACTION

Coventry fans are FURIOUS. One supporter said: “Carragher has always had it in for Lampard. He’s bitter because Coventry are back and Liverpool are a mess.”

Another added: “He’s written us off before a ball’s been kicked. Let’s see if he’s still talking like that when we beat Arsenal on the opening day.”

A third fan wrote: “Carragher never won the Premier League himself. What does he know about winning titles?”

WHAT’S AT STAKE

Coventry are back in the Premier League for the first time since 2001. They’ve spent nearly £100m on new signings. They’ve broken their transfer record twice in one summer. And they’re ready to take on the best.

Their opening game? A trip to the Emirates to face defending champions Arsenal on August 21. It’s the perfect opportunity to prove Carragher wrong.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Jamie Carragher has slammed Coventry’s spending and predicted they’ll be relegated. The Sky Blues are back in the Premier League for the first time in 25 years – and one of the game’s biggest pundits has already written them off.

But Coventry have spent nearly £100m. They’ve broken their transfer record twice. And they’ve got a point to prove
