Wolves Urged to Flex Financial Muscle in Bid to Beat Celtic and Rangers to Fares Ghedjemis
Wolves have been encouraged to use their financial strength to outbid Celtic and Rangers in the race for highly rated Frosinone winger Fares Ghedjemis.
The Midlands club has endured a relatively quiet summer transfer window, with Kieran Trippier, Raul Jimenez and Rafiki Said representing the only arrivals so far. While the additions of Trippier and Jimenez have been widely praised, many supporters expected a more aggressive recruitment drive after the ambitious promises made by chairman Nathan Shi and technical director Matt Jackson following last season’s disappointing relegation.
Club officials may argue that the current squad remains competitive and that there is still plenty of time left before the transfer deadline. However, the lack of major transfer activity suggests Wolves should still have significant funds available to strengthen the squad.
Head coach Cesar Peixoto has already made it clear that signing another winger is one of his priorities, a need that has become even more pressing after Rafiki Said suffered an injury that is expected to sideline him for the opening months of the campaign.
Mateus Mane and Rodrigo Gomes are likely to start the season as the first-choice wide players, but Wolves lack reliable depth in those positions. As a result, recruiting another high-quality winger has become increasingly important.
Ghedjemis has previously been linked with a move to Molineux, although recent reports suggest Celtic and Rangers are now leading the chase for the 23-year-old.
Both Scottish clubs have already tested Frosinone’s resolve, with Celtic reportedly submitting a £6 million offer and Rangers bidding around £8 million. Neither proposal came close to the Italian club’s asking price, with Frosinone believed to value the winger between €15 million and €20 million.
That valuation could prove difficult for either Scottish side to meet, but Wolves are considered to be in a much stronger financial position. After generating well over £100 million through player sales across recent transfer windows while also reducing the club’s wage bill, there is a growing belief that Wolves have the resources to match Frosinone’s demands.
Ghedjemis could also provide something different to Peixoto’s attack. Comfortable on the right wing, the Algerian has drawn comparisons with former Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez because of his technical ability, intelligent movement and dangerous left foot.
Rather than relying purely on pace, Ghedjemis prefers to drift inside from the right, create chances with incisive passing and regularly contribute goals. His playing style contrasts with Rodrigo Gomes, whose strengths lie in direct running and taking defenders on down the outside, giving Wolves greater tactical variety.
At just 23 years old, Ghedjemis also offers significant long-term potential, making him an attractive investment for the future.
Convincing the winger to leave Serie A for Championship football may not be straightforward, particularly when both Celtic and Rangers can offer European competition. Nevertheless, Wolves have consistently stated their ambition of securing an immediate return to the Premier League, a vision they hope will appeal to ambitious players.
The signings of Trippier and Jimenez demonstrated that commitment earlier in the summer, but transfer activity has slowed considerably since then. As the window enters its decisive stages, beating Celtic and Rangers to Ghedjemis would send a powerful message about Wolves’ ambitions and provide Peixoto with another exciting attacking option.
