Wolves Star Mateus Mane Sends Strong Championship Warning Ahead of Promotion Push
Mateus Mane has declared himself ready for the physical demands of the Championship as the Wolves youngster prepares to play a major role in the club’s promotion ambitions.
The 18-year-old is expected to feature prominently in Cesar Peixoto’s side after making an encouraging start to pre-season. Although his impact was quieter during some of Wolves’ later friendlies, Mane has continued to make significant progress as he adapts to the demands of senior football.
The teenager has reportedly added around two to three kilograms of muscle since breaking into the first team, with his physical development becoming a major focus during the summer.
Mane believes the extra strength, combined with the experience he gained last season, has left him better equipped to deal with the challenges that await in the Championship.
“It’s been very difficult coming up as a young player,” Mane said.
“I didn’t really know much about playing against older men but I feel like now I’m used to it and I know when to go one-v-one, release the ball when I have to.
“It’s just my decision-making, it’s helped me a lot in my game now and this season I’m just ready to show the fans and everyone what I can do with it.
“Last season I was getting there and during the off-season, that’s what I worked on the most, putting muscle on.
“The Championship is a very difficult, a physical league, so I feel like I’ve got to be ready for it.
“It’s working and I’m trying to put more muscle on to get stronger.”
Wolves enjoyed a positive pre-season campaign, completing six friendlies as Peixoto continued to establish his tactical identity and develop a clear style of play ahead of the new season.
Mane has been impressed with the work carried out during the summer and believes the squad is beginning to fully understand the manager’s ideas.
“It’s been a very tough pre-season, probably one of the toughest pre-seasons I’ve been in,” Mane added.
“I feel like the manager’s helped us a lot and we’re trying to help them as well, either on the pitch or off it, so it’s been enjoyable.
“I feel like every day we work in the training pitch, outside the training pitch, we have meetings and everything.
“I feel like his message is really coming across good and everyone’s understanding. We’re looking forward to taking it into the season.”
With the 2026/27 Championship campaign approaching, Mane now appears determined to prove that he can handle the physical demands of the second tier while becoming an important part of Wolves’ push for promotion.
The youngster’s development could prove crucial to Peixoto’s plans, particularly if Mane can translate his promising pre-season form into consistent performances when the competitive action begins.
