Roy Keane issues huge Wilson Isidor verdict after Sunderland win against RC Lens

Roy Keane has delivered a strong endorsement of Sunderland striker Wilson Isidor after the forward scored in the Black Cats’ 2-0 pre-season victory over RC Lens.

Isidor came off the bench to find the net in the second half, sealing the win alongside Trai Hume’s earlier goal as Régis Le Bris’ side continued their preparations for the new Premier League campaign.

Speaking on Sky Sports, the former Manchester United captain and one-time Sunderland manager did not hold back in his assessment of the Haiti international.

“I’ve been watching this kid,” Keane said. “People talk about whether he should stay or go, but I look at him and I see a player with real potential. He’s got that bit of quality in the final third. He’s not just a runner – he can finish, he can link play, and he wants to score goals.”

Keane continued: “At Sunderland he’s got the platform. Last season he showed flashes, and now he’s coming back from the World Cup with more experience. That goal against Lens was typical of him – calm, composed, in the right place. That’s what you need from a striker.”

The Irishman also highlighted the importance of keeping hold of players like Isidor as the club balances Premier League and European commitments.

“Too many clubs sell their best young players too early,” Keane added. “If Sunderland are serious about competing, they need to keep these lads and let them grow. Isidor has the tools. He’s still young, still learning, but the potential is clearly there. Give him a proper run and he’ll deliver.”

Isidor’s future has been the subject of speculation in recent weeks, with interest reported from other clubs. However, Sunderland have made it clear they have no intention of selling the forward this summer.

Keane’s comments will be welcomed by supporters who have long believed the striker has more to offer. With the new season just around the corner, the former Sunderland boss’s endorsement adds further weight to the view that Isidor could be a key figure under Le Bris.

The Black Cats now turn their attention to the final stages of pre-season as they prepare for a demanding campaign on multiple fronts.
