Leeds United enter race for AC Milan midfielder amid ambitious 49ers plan

After a highly successful return to the Premier League, finishing in 14th place, Leeds United have already turned their attention towards preparations for next season, with the summer transfer window at the centre of their plans.

The Whites exceeded expectations during their first campaign back in the top flight, securing survival with ease and proving they can compete comfortably in mid-table.

The next objective is to build on that foundation. Leeds are eager to strengthen Daniel Farke’s squad but must also remain conscious of the Premier League’s Squad Cost Ratio regulations. As a result, the club will need to be strategic in the market, striking the right balance between improving the team and maintaining financial stability.

The 49ers are prepared to support Farke during the transfer window, while also pursuing their ambition of bringing more American talent to Elland Road.

49ers push Leeds into race for AC Milan midfielder Yunus Musah

Yunus Musah spent last season on loan at Atalanta and now has just two years remaining on his contract with AC Milan.

The midfielder is reportedly not part of the Rossoneri’s long-term plans, and former Premier League scout Mick Brown has revealed that Leeds are monitoring his situation closely.

Brown believes the 49ers are keen to increase American representation within the squad and could look to reunite Musah with fellow United States international Brenden Aaronson at Elland Road.

“Yunus Musah has been on Leeds’ radar for some time,” Brown told Football Insider.

“The owners have consistently shown an interest in signing American players, and Musah could be the latest name under consideration.

“Brenden Aaronson is a good example of that approach.

“Daniel Farke has made it clear he wants significant backing this summer and has publicly challenged the board to show ambition, so I expect Leeds to be active in the market.

“If Musah becomes available, Leeds will likely be among several clubs keeping a close eye on him.

“Their recruitment team will know his strengths and weaknesses inside out. It would have been beneficial to assess him further at the World Cup, but he won’t be involved.

“He hasn’t fully established himself at AC Milan, so a fresh environment and a new league could be exactly what he needs. He will also be attracted by the opportunity to play in the Premier League.”

Nationality should not influence recruitment decisions

Brenden Aaronson has divided opinion at times during his Leeds career, but he has earned the respect of supporters through his relentless work ethic, commitment, and willingness to give everything for the team.

His popularity among fans has nothing to do with his nationality, and that should not be a factor in the club’s transfer strategy either.

The 49ers should not be encouraging Leeds to pursue American players simply to expand the club’s profile in the United States or for commercial purposes.

Recruitment decisions must be based on quality and suitability. Leeds should target players capable of improving the squad and helping the club progress, rather than prioritising signings because they share the same nationality as the ownership group.
