Daniel Farke makes major Harry Gray call as Leeds United set to finalise decision

Harry Gray is regarded as one of the brightest prospects to emerge from Leeds United’s academy since his older brother, Archie Gray, burst onto the scene a few years ago.

There is genuine excitement among Leeds supporters about the teenager’s future, given the Gray family’s deep-rooted connection to the club and their long-standing legacy at Elland Road.

Last season, Harry spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Rotherham United, where he often stood out despite the club’s struggles. The young striker scored three goals in 20 League One appearances, although he was unable to prevent Rotherham from suffering relegation.

The 17-year-old is set to return to Leeds for pre-season this summer, but it appears the club’s hierarchy have already identified the most suitable next step in his development.

Leeds close in on Harry Gray development decision

Daniel Farke has always been determined to manage Harry’s progress carefully, aware that the Gray surname naturally brings additional attention and expectations.

The striker himself pushed for a temporary move to Rotherham last season, believing he was ready to test himself in senior football.

While Harry adapted well to the demands of League One and rarely looked out of place, there is a growing feeling that regular Premier League football may come too soon.

According to The Athletic’s Beren Cross, another loan spell away from Elland Road is currently viewed as the most likely outcome for the youngster this summer.

Any potential destination, however, will need to demonstrate that Harry will receive consistent first-team opportunities.

Cross wrote: “Scored three goals in 20 League One appearances on loan at a poor Rotherham United team, who were relegated from League One.

“Another loan away seems like the best course of action next season, but he and Leeds will need convincing he will play regularly, wherever that is.”

A key decision for Daniel Farke

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Noah Okafor and Lukas Nmecha already among Leeds’ attacking options, and the possibility of another striker arriving this summer, Harry’s route to regular first-team football appears limited.

Farke has repeatedly stressed the importance of allowing the teenager to develop away from intense scrutiny, and remaining part of a Premier League squad would inevitably place him under a brighter spotlight.

As a result, another loan move is expected to be strongly considered. The Leeds manager is keen to rely on experienced forwards while ensuring Harry’s long-term progress is not disrupted by a lack of playing time.

A move to a Championship club could provide the ideal next challenge, and given his reputation and potential, Leeds are unlikely to struggle in finding interested clubs for the young striker this summer.
