Leeds United invested heavily during last summer’s transfer window as they prepared for their return to the Premier League. The Whites brought in 10 first-team signings, adding both quality and depth to Daniel Farke’s squad.
Despite spending over £100 million and recruiting several new players, not all supporters were convinced by the club’s business.
Some fans felt Leeds failed to strengthen their attacking options sufficiently, while others questioned why the club missed out on several high-profile targets. Players such as Rodrigo Muniz and Bilal El Khannouss were both heavily linked with moves to Elland Road but ultimately remained elsewhere.
One deal that came particularly close to completion was a move for Harry Wilson. Leeds had reportedly reached an agreement with Fulham late in the transfer window, only for the London club to pull out at the final moment.
Gordon Strachan backs Leeds move for Harry Wilson
Wilson stayed at Craven Cottage and went on to enjoy an impressive campaign, contributing 11 goals and eight assists across all competitions.
The Welsh international has yet to agree a new contract with Fulham and is expected to become a free agent this summer. Leeds have already been strongly linked with a renewed move for the attacking midfielder ahead of the transfer window.
Former Premier League manager Gordon Strachan believes Wilson would be an excellent addition to Farke’s squad.
“Harry Wilson to Leeds United? There are 10 goals a season in there. I think he’d be a great signing.
“He can score 10 goals a season in the Premier League and he’s available on a free transfer, so that’s definitely something worth considering.
“He’s a player who took time to establish himself. He wasn’t viewed as a superstar prospect, but now he looks like a genuine asset.
“He seems to have embraced responsibility at Fulham and has become a forward that Premier League defenders fear. Cutting in from the right side, he’s a major threat.”
Leeds should move quickly for Wilson
As the summer progresses, it appears increasingly unlikely that Wilson will extend his stay at Fulham. The departure of Marco Silva may have further reduced the chances of a new deal being agreed.
Wilson enjoyed an outstanding season and has consistently delivered strong performances in recent years.
Very few free agents on the market can match a record of 20 Premier League goals from midfield over the past three seasons.
Farke has long valued creative players capable of unlocking defences, and Wilson fits that profile perfectly. His experience, attacking quality, and availability on a free transfer make him an attractive option for Leeds.
The 49ers now have a clear opportunity to secure a proven Premier League performer, and they should have little hesitation in making their move.
