Newcastle Face Major Decision Over £50m Abde Ezzalzouli Deal

Newcastle United have reportedly reignited their pursuit of Real Betis winger Abde Ezzalzouli, and it’s easy to see why many supporters believe he could be one of the smartest signings available this summer.

According to recent reports, the Magpies have reopened discussions with the Moroccan international’s representatives after missing out on alternative attacking targets. Newcastle’s recruitment team has reportedly admired Ezzalzouli for some time, and renewed contact suggests the club views him as a serious option to strengthen Eddie Howe’s frontline.

The timing is hardly surprising.

Newcastle entered the summer knowing they needed additional quality in wide areas. Whether viewed as competition, depth, or a long-term starter, the club has been searching for a winger capable of providing goals, creativity, and genuine one-versus-one threat. Ezzalzouli ticks every box.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Real Betis, producing an impressive 15 goals and 13 assists across all competitions. Those numbers alone explain why clubs across Europe are monitoring his situation. More importantly, they show a player whose end product has finally caught up with his natural talent.

What makes Ezzalzouli particularly appealing is his profile.

Modern football is increasingly dominated by structured defensive systems, meaning attackers who can beat defenders individually have become incredibly valuable. Ezzalzouli thrives in exactly those situations. He is explosive over short distances, loves driving directly at defenders, and possesses the confidence to take risks in the final third.

His numbers support the eye test. This season he has continued to contribute heavily in both La Liga and European competition, recording goals and assists while consistently ranking among Betis’ most dangerous attacking players. In UEFA competition alone, he has produced four goals and two assists while playing a key role in the Spanish side’s European campaign.

There is also a strong argument that his game is naturally suited to Premier League football.

Some technically gifted wingers struggle with the physical demands of England’s top flight. Ezzalzouli appears different. He combines pace, aggression, direct running, and physical resilience with technical ability. Rather than slowing attacks down, he tends to accelerate them. That trait is exactly what Newcastle supporters have come to appreciate under Eddie Howe.

Another reason Newcastle may feel confident is the player’s age profile. At 24, Ezzalzouli is entering what should be the most productive years of his career. Unlike many expensive transfers, Newcastle would not be paying for past achievements alone. They would be investing in a player who still has room to improve while already producing elite-level numbers.

Of course, there is one major obstacle: the price.

Reports suggest Real Betis are unwilling to negotiate significantly below the player’s €60 million release clause, which equates to roughly £50-52 million. Betis reportedly believe Ezzalzouli’s value could rise even further following his international exposure with Morocco, and Barcelona are also believed to retain a percentage of any future sale, giving the Spanish club additional incentive to hold firm on their valuation.

For some supporters, that figure feels steep.

However, the current market tells a different story. Proven wide forwards capable of delivering goals and assists rarely come cheap. Newcastle have already seen how quickly prices rise when Premier League clubs become involved in transfer battles. Missing out on targets often ends up being more expensive than acting decisively in the first place.

Interestingly, discussions among supporters and neutral observers suggest perceptions of Ezzalzouli have changed dramatically over the last two seasons. Earlier in his career, critics questioned his decision-making and end product. More recent reactions describe a far more complete player, one who has evolved from a flashy dribbler into a genuine attacking weapon capable of deciding matches.

That development may be the most encouraging aspect of all.

Raw talent has never been the issue. Consistency was.

Now the numbers are arriving, the performances are improving, and the interest from major clubs is growing. Newcastle appear to recognize that they may have an opportunity to sign a player just before he reaches another level.

If the reports are accurate and Eddie Howe truly believes Ezzalzouli is the right fit, then Newcastle should stop hesitating.

A 24-year-old winger with elite dribbling ability, 28 goal contributions, Premier League-friendly attributes, European experience, and significant room for growth does not become available every summer.

Sometimes the simplest solution is the correct one.

Pay the clause and bring him to St. James’ Park.
