Leeds United secure Champions League winner, Elland Road favourite and local hero as free agents
Darlow’s chances of remaining Leeds United’s first-choice goalkeeper this season were uncertain. After replacing Lucas Perri as the club’s No.1 last term, the experienced stopper had established himself as a key figure between the posts.
The Whites have been heavily linked with several goalkeeping options, including Japan international Zion Suzuki, Sweden’s Jacob Widell Zetterström and Manchester City reserve goalkeeper James Trafford.
The Northampton-born goalkeeper started the final 17 matches of Leeds’ Premier League campaign, taking his overall appearance tally for the club to 38 games. Leeds still have Perri available and are reportedly close to finalising a two-year contract with Alex Cairns.
Meanwhile, Illan Meslier has departed Elland Road and completed a free transfer to Arsenal.
