49ERS UNDER PRESSURE AS DANIEL FARKE CONTRACT DECISION LOOMS

Leeds United’s first piece of business this summer was securing the future of club captain Ethan Ampadu, with the midfielder signing a new contract that will keep him at Elland Road until 2030. Chairman Paraag Marathe had identified Ampadu’s renewal as a priority, and negotiations were completed quickly.

The club’s other contract situations have proved more complicated. Goalkeepers Karl Darlow and Alex Cairns, along with defender Sam Byram, officially became free agents after their contracts expired at the beginning of July.

Reports have linked Darlow with a move to Manchester United, while Byram is expected to join Norwich City. Cairns, however, is reportedly close to extending his stay at Leeds after reaching a verbal agreement on a new deal, although the club has yet to confirm it officially.

Adam Pope discusses Daniel Farke’s contract situation

Head coach Daniel Farke remains under contract until 2027, but discussions over a potential extension continue to attract attention following Leeds’ return to the Premier League.

Farke has previously stated that he is happy at the club and would welcome the opportunity to continue his work at Elland Road. He has also spoken about the importance of matching the club’s ambitions with continued investment in the squad.

Speaking on the Don’t Go to Bed Just Yet podcast, BBC Radio Leeds journalist Adam Pope said he believes it would be beneficial for a new agreement to be reached before the start of the Premier League season. He noted that recruitment is likely to be an important factor in the negotiations, with the club’s transfer activity expected to play a role in any new contract discussions.

Pope also suggested that if negotiations remain unresolved for an extended period, speculation surrounding Farke’s future is likely to continue despite both parties appearing keen to maintain their relationship.

Contract talks continue

Leeds United and Daniel Farke are understood to be interested in extending their partnership, with the German guiding the club back to the Premier League and establishing himself as a key figure in the club’s long-term plans.

As the summer transfer window progresses, attention will remain on both Leeds’ recruitment strategy and the ongoing discussions over Farke’s future. Any progress on either front is expected to be closely followed ahead of the start of the new Premier League campaign.
