Newcastle United could be facing another major summer departure, with reports suggesting three European clubs are preparing moves for Nick Woltemade after a frustrating debut season at St James’ Park.
According to reports, Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid and Aston Villa are all monitoring the German international’s situation closely.
Woltemade arrived on Tyneside last summer amid significant excitement, but his first campaign under Eddie Howe failed to go as planned. The versatile attacker was deployed in several different roles throughout the season and eventually found himself largely frozen out of the manager’s plans during the latter stages of the campaign.
Reports claim there have been disagreements between the player and coaching staff regarding his best position, contributing to growing uncertainty over his long-term future at the club.
Sources close to the situation believe an exit is increasingly likely this summer, with Newcastle reportedly willing to entertain offers. The Magpies are said to prefer a permanent transfer and would value the 24-year-old at around €65 million, rather than agreeing to a loan deal with an obligation to buy.
There are also suggestions that Woltemade’s representatives have been left disappointed by his development since arriving at Newcastle, further fuelling speculation that a move away could be on the cards.
Despite his struggles, Woltemade still produced respectable numbers during his debut season, registering eight Premier League goals and three assists while also contributing in the Champions League.
With interest growing across Europe and Newcastle seeking to reshape their squad, the coming weeks could prove decisive in determining whether Woltemade’s time on Tyneside comes to an unexpectedly early end.
