Nine Wolves Players Who Could Be Pushing for a Move Before the Transfer Window Closes
Wolverhampton Wanderers are entering a new chapter after suffering relegation from the Premier League, with the club preparing for life back in the Championship for the first time in almost ten years.
After several seasons of flirting with relegation, Wolves finally dropped into the second tier following a disappointing campaign that saw them finish bottom of the table.
The summer has already brought significant change. Rob Edwards has left the club despite only recently taking charge, with former Gil Vicente boss Cesar Peixoto stepping in as his replacement. The managerial switch reportedly came as an unexpected blow to new signing Kieran Trippier.
Wolves have strengthened their squad by re-signing Raul Jimenez on a free transfer from Fulham, bringing in winger Rafiki Said from Standard Liege for around £7.7 million, and making Ladislav Krejci’s loan move from Girona permanent.
There have also been departures. James Storer and Alfie Pond have left for Plymouth Argyle and Chesterfield respectively, Nigel Lonwijk has completed a move to Maccabi Haifa, while Joao Gomes became the club’s biggest sale of the summer after joining Aston Villa. Veteran defender Matty Doherty also exited following the expiry of his contract, signing for Sheffield United.
Although Brazil international Andre has surprisingly committed his future to Wolves by signing a new contract, several other first-team players may feel their future lies elsewhere. Here are nine players who could still be hoping to secure a move before the transfer window shuts.
Jose Sa
Jose Sa’s future remains uncertain despite the arrival of fellow Portuguese coach Cesar Peixoto.
The experienced goalkeeper has been strongly linked with a return to Olympiacos, where he enjoyed success before joining Wolves in 2021. Having made around 170 appearances for the club, the 34-year-old may now prefer to remain in top-flight football, especially with Olympiacos potentially needing a new first-choice goalkeeper.
Sam Johnstone
Sam Johnstone has endured a frustrating spell since arriving from Crystal Palace in 2024.
Earlier this summer, he was linked with Manchester United, but that possibility disappeared after the club opted to sign Karl Darlow instead. Even if Jose Sa departs, competition from Dan Bentley means Johnstone is far from guaranteed the starting role. A move elsewhere could offer him the regular football he is seeking.
Ki-Jana Hoever
Ki-Jana Hoever has spent much of his Wolves career away on loan rather than establishing himself at Molineux.
The former Liverpool defender has had spells with PSV Eindhoven, Stoke City, Auxerre and Sheffield United, and another transfer now appears the most likely outcome. While he could perform well in the Championship, a fresh start may benefit both player and club.
David Moller Wolfe
David Moller Wolfe impressed for Norway during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, helping his country reach the quarter-finals and reminding everyone of his quality.
However, after joining Wolves from AZ Alkmaar only last year, he lost his place to Hugo Bueno during the campaign. Following his international performances, the Norwegian full-back may now believe he deserves another opportunity in top-flight football.
Jean-Ricner Bellegarde
Jean-Ricner Bellegarde was one of Wolves’ brighter performers during an otherwise difficult season.
The Haiti international has become a dependable presence since arriving from Strasbourg in 2023, thanks to his work rate, versatility and energy. While Peixoto may see him as a key figure in the promotion push, Bellegarde could understandably prefer to continue playing at the highest level.
Marshall Munetsi
Marshall Munetsi has struggled to make the impact many expected after his move from Stade de Reims in January 2025.
Limited appearances were followed by a loan spell with Paris FC, and another transfer now seems likely. At 30 years old, regular football will almost certainly be his priority.
Boubacar Traore
Injuries have repeatedly disrupted Boubacar Traore’s progress since joining Wolves from Metz.
Although the club made his move permanent in 2023, he has never truly established himself in the first team. After spending last season back on loan with Metz, another departure appears the most logical outcome this summer.
Hwang Hee-chan
Hwang Hee-chan has produced flashes of brilliance during his time at Wolves but has struggled to deliver consistently.
The South Korea international remains an experienced attacking option, yet at 30 years old he may feel his best chance of regular football lies away from Molineux. Whether in another top-flight league or with an ambitious Championship side, a fresh challenge could suit all parties.
Sasa Kalajdzic
Few Wolves players have endured more misfortune than Sasa Kalajdzic.
The Austrian striker suffered a serious ACL injury shortly after arriving from Stuttgart in 2022, and further fitness setbacks have prevented him from finding any real rhythm. Loan spells with Eintracht Frankfurt and LASK followed, but with Raul Jimenez back at the club and Adam Armstrong also competing for minutes, Kalajdzic may need another move to revive his career before the transfer deadline.
