Andy Robertson Sparks Scotland Injury Concerns As Fresh Update Emerges

Scotland captain Andy Robertson has sparked fresh injury concerns for the Tartan Army following their hard-fought 1-0 victory over Haiti in their opening 2026 World Cup match.

The Liverpool defender, who started and played a key role in the narrow win thanks to John McGinn’s goal, was seen receiving treatment on his long-standing ankle issue during and after the game, raising questions about his full fitness for the tougher fixtures ahead against Morocco and Brazil.

Robertson has been managing the ankle problem since March and addressed the squad’s resilience in recent comments:

“Injured, not injured, 100% not 100%… I just made a promise to myself that I would always show up and hopefully people would join me.”

Despite the concern, the 32-year-old captain led by example in the Group C opener, helping Scotland secure three vital points in their first World Cup appearance since 1998.

Ongoing Squad Issues

The injury cloud over Robertson adds to Scotland’s existing challenges:

Billy Gilmour remains a major absentee after his knee injury in the pre-tournament friendly against Curaçao ruled him out of the entire tournament. The Napoli midfielder has travelled to support the squad from the sidelines but is a significant loss in midfield.

Scott McTominay recovered from a recent illness in time to feature against Haiti and is expected to be available moving forward.

Grant Hanley and veteran goalkeeper Craig Gordon both shook off minor doubts before the tournament and were part of the matchday squad.

Manager Steve Clarke will now assess Robertson’s condition closely ahead of the next group game. The captain’s leadership and experience remain crucial as Scotland aim to progress from a tough group.

Robertson has previously spoken about the team’s unity:

“We’ve gained the trust of the nation… We spoke so much together about the World Cup.”

Scotland fans will be hoping their skipper can manage the ankle issue and continue to inspire the side in what remains a historic campaign.
