Thomas Tuchel Lost it With England Star in World Cup Game v Ghana as Footage Emerges

Thomas Tuchel was absolutely furious with one of his England players during their goalless draw with Ghana at the 2026 World Cup.

The Three Lions got their World Cup campaign off to a brilliant start last week when they beat Croatia 4-2 at Dallas Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

They knew a victory against Ghana, ranked 60 places below them in the official FIFA world rankings, at Boston Stadium would see them clinch top spot in Group L and seal their progression to the knockout rounds of the competition.

However, England were far from their best as they failed to break down a spirited Ghana outfit. The Three Lions can even consider themselves fortunate they did not end up on the losing end after Carlos Queiroz’s side had a strong penalty shout controversially waved away late in the second half.

Thomas Tuchel Rages at England Man During Ghana Draw

Tuchel is never afraid to express his feelings during matches, regardless of the emotion. The German, as he always is, was extremely animated on the touchline during his side’s disappointing draw against Ghana.

He wasn’t happy at all with what he saw from Tottenham ace Djed Spence during the match, and he made his feelings perfectly clear.

Spence was a late substitute against Croatia in England’s opener. After an impressive cameo, he was rewarded with a start against Ghana at left-back.

Footage has now emerged of Tuchel raging at the 25-year-old in the second half of the game in Boston. In a video posted by ITV, Tuchel can be seen screaming Spence’s name multiple times before instructing him to ‘give and go.’

Spence was not on the pitch for much longer as he made way for Man City ace Nico O’Reilly.

Thomas Tuchel Also Berated Djed Spence in Training

Tuchel was also critical of Spence in an open training session in the lead-up to the match, instructing him to ‘wake up’ after he hesitated during a passing drill.

Spence addressed the footage after it went viral. He told talkSPORT: “It’s normal. He’s a great manager. He wants the best from his players,” Spence told talkSPORT. “He demands high standards and for this tournament, we need to be ready, we need to be on it.

“Every session needs to be of the highest quality. That’s what he demands. It’s good. I wouldn’t be the only one he says it too. It’s part of the game.

I think he’s a great manager, he’s a great guy. Very detailed in what he wants to do. I’ve got great respect for him. It’s like what he always says, we’re building a family, we’ve built a brotherhood within the team, everyone has one dream, one brain.

“I think everyone is on the same path. We can do special things. I think he’s built that environment with this squad.”

England face Panama in their final group game on Saturday, June 27. They are almost certainly in the last 32 but know a victory will see them clinch top spot in their group.
