Leeds United are already turning their attention towards the summer transfer window after securing a 14th-place finish in their first campaign back in the Premier League.
Manager Daniel Farke has reportedly urged the board to match his ambition in the market and provide the backing needed to strengthen the squad ahead of next season.
However, chairman Paraag Marathe has stressed the importance of recruiting wisely, particularly with the Premier League’s Squad Cost Ratio regulations placing restrictions on spending.
Despite that, Leeds have continued identifying potential targets behind the scenes, and one midfielder already appears keen on a move to Elland Road.
Jovan Lukic open to Leeds United switch
Leeds have been monitoring Jovan Lukic ahead of the summer window, with the Philadelphia Union midfielder viewed as a highly affordable option.
The Serbian has caught the attention of Leeds scouts, and the 49ers are believed to be seriously considering a move to bring him to West Yorkshire this summer.
Spanish side Celta Vigo are also interested in the midfielder, but according to Sportsboom, Leeds are currently leading the race for his signature.
Lukic is said to favour a move to Elland Road over a switch to Spain, with the midfielder eager to test himself in the Premier League.
The 24-year-old would reportedly welcome the opportunity to join the Whites this summer, although Leeds still need to negotiate a deal with Philadelphia Union.
That may not prove too difficult, however, as the MLS club are understood to be willing to sell him for a fee in the region of £2.6 million.
The 49ers see Lukic as a smart addition
The Serbian midfielder has earned praise for his performances in MLS, and the 49ers reportedly believe he could become a valuable addition to Leeds’ midfield options.
Lukic’s energetic style and ball-winning qualities have quickly made him a standout performer in the United States, while his aggressive approach appears well suited to Leeds’ high-tempo system.
The Whites are confident he possesses the physical attributes and mentality required to adapt to the demands of Premier League football if he completes a move to Elland Road.
With Leeds needing to balance ambition with sensible spending, Lukic is viewed internally as the type of cost-effective signing that could improve squad depth without placing major strain on the club’s finances.
