Leeds United could be set for one of the most intriguing transfer opportunities of the summer, with Juventus now prepared to part ways with their struggling Belgian forward after a disastrous season in Italy.
The 26-year-old arrived in Turin from RB Leipzig in a deal worth around £40 million, but things have quickly turned sour. Despite his reputation as one of Europe’s most clinical attackers, the Belgian has scored just twice in 37 appearances across all competitions.
Under new manager Luciano Spalletti, the forward has been pushed completely to the sidelines, featuring for only a few minutes in Juventus’ recent Serie A fixtures.
That dramatic fall from grace has now opened the door for Leeds, who are actively searching for more firepower ahead of the new season. Reports suggest the Whites are exploring a loan-to-buy move, believing the striker still has plenty left to offer at the highest level.
Before his difficult spell in Italy, the Belgian was terrorising defenders in both France and Germany. He scored 21 league goals for RC Lens before exploding into top form at Leipzig, where he netted 28 goals in his first season and continued delivering impressive numbers the following year.
Leeds are hopeful a fresh start in English football could help revive his confidence and unlock the dangerous attacking qualities that once made him one of Europe’s most feared forwards.
The striker has also spoken openly about the influence of Thierry Henry on his career. During his early days with Belgium, the Arsenal legend reportedly gave him tactical advice moments before a Nations League clash against Poland national football team.
Just minutes later, he scored his first international goal.
Now, Leeds fans will be dreaming that the forgotten Juventus star can rediscover that same spark at Elland Road if the club succeeds in pulling off the deal this summer.
