Leeds face paying club-record fee for German speedster who rejected Premier League rivals

Daniel Farke faces several important decisions this summer, and one Leeds United player now appears increasingly likely to leave Elland Road before the start of the new season.

After securing a respectable 14th-place finish in their first campaign back in the Premier League, Leeds have turned their attention toward the summer transfer window as they look to strengthen the squad and continue their progress.

The Whites are eager to add more quality, creativity, and attacking firepower across the pitch. Bringing in players capable of making a difference in the final third remains one of the club’s top priorities.

Leeds are determined to show greater ambition in the transfer market, and one player firmly on their radar is highly-rated young winger Said El Mala.

Said El Mala Turns Down Brentford Move

Leeds have been keeping a close eye on El Mala, who has emerged as one of the most sought-after young attacking talents in European football.

The 19-year-old winger has attracted widespread interest thanks to his impressive performances, with several clubs across Europe and the Premier League monitoring his development ahead of the summer window.

While Leeds remain interested, Brentford have been the club to make the strongest move so far, submitting concrete offers in an attempt to bring the youngster to the Gtech Community Stadium.

However, according to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Brentford have been unable to convince El Mala to make the switch.

The player’s family and representatives have reportedly informed Brentford that he will not be joining the West London side this summer.

Brentford’s most recent proposal was worth around £43 million, an offer that FC Köln were willing to accept. Despite that, El Mala has decided that a move to Brentford is not the right step for him at this stage of his career.

Leeds May Need a Record-Breaking Deal

Leeds’ current transfer record remains the £36 million fee paid for Georginio Rutter in January 2023.

That figure could now come under serious threat if the Yorkshire club decide to pursue El Mala more aggressively.

With Brentford already willing to offer around £43 million, FC Köln are expected to demand at least that amount should they enter negotiations with other interested clubs.

The German side know that growing interest from several Premier League teams could spark a bidding battle, potentially pushing the asking price even higher.

Farke has repeatedly spoken about the need for Leeds to be ambitious in the market, and few statements would be bigger than breaking the club’s transfer record to secure one of Europe’s most exciting young attacking prospects.

Whether Leeds are prepared to meet the financial demands remains to be seen, but El Mala’s rejection of Brentford could hand the Whites a significant opportunity in the race for his signature.
