Gary Neville criticism live on ITV will motivate Leeds star Noah Okafor

Gary Neville’s criticism of Switzerland’s blunt attack could hand Leeds United star Noah Okafor the opportunity he has been waiting for at the World Cup.

Okafor enjoyed an excellent debut season at Elland Road, scoring eight Premier League goals in 28 appearances and playing a crucial role in Leeds’ survival. His memorable brace against Manchester United at Old Trafford cemented his place as a fan favourite and earned him a recall to the Switzerland squad.

Despite his club form, the 26-year-old remained an unused substitute in Switzerland’s 1-1 draw with Qatar. After the game, Neville questioned the quality of Switzerland’s front line, insisting Ruben Vargas, Breel Embolo and Dan Ndoye lacked the cutting edge needed at the highest level after wasting a host of chances.

His comments will only strengthen Okafor’s case for inclusion. Dan Ndoye, who started ahead of the Leeds winger, endured a disappointing campaign with Nottingham Forest and has struggled for goals since October. In contrast, Okafor proved in the Premier League that he can deliver in decisive moments.

If Switzerland are searching for greater ruthlessness in front of goal, their answer may already be sitting on the bench. Okafor should now be optimistic about forcing his way into the starting XI as the tournament progresses.
