Crysencio Summerville targets trophies after completing Al-Hilal switch
Crysencio Summerville says he is determined to achieve great success after completing what he described as a “rollercoaster” move to Saudi Pro League champions Al-Hilal, with the Dutch winger setting his sights on winning every trophy available.
Summerville excited by new chapter
The 24-year-old has signed a four-year contract with Al-Hilal, keeping him at the club until June 2030 after bringing an end to his spell at West Ham following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.
Speaking after the announcement, Summerville expressed his delight at joining one of Asia’s biggest clubs.
> “I’m very happy to sign for Al-Hilal, the biggest club in the Saudi Pro League,” he said. “I have big ambitions, and I hope we can win every trophy. I’m a player who wants to entertain the fans, and when a club like Al-Hilal comes for you, it’s a great honour.”
Saudi giants outmuscle European rivals
Al-Hilal secured Summerville’s signature after beating off interest from several European clubs. Roma had previously seen a £39 million offer rejected, while Manchester United were also monitoring the winger’s situation.
The Saudi club eventually struck a deal worth an initial £55 million, which could rise to £60 million through performance-related bonuses. The transfer makes Summerville the third-most expensive sale in West Ham’s history.
Reports also suggest the Netherlands international will earn up to €17 million per season after tax, with the four-year agreement potentially worth €68 million in total.
World Cup displays boosted his value
Summerville’s impressive performances at the World Cup played a major role in increasing his market value. The winger scored twice for the Netherlands and emerged as one of the team’s standout attacking players during the tournament.
His campaign ended in heartbreak when Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou saved his penalty in the knockout stages. The two will now become teammates at Al-Hilal under head coach Simone Inzaghi, alongside stars including Karim Benzema, Ruben Neves, Darwin Núñez, João Cancelo and Theo Hernández.
The Dutch winger now begins a new chapter in Saudi Arabia, hoping to turn his personal ambitions into silverware with one of the continent’s most successful clubs.
