” MORE TROUBLE FOR RANGERS AFTER DISAPPOINTING SEASON ”
Backroom uncertainty growing at Ibrox as major coaching figures prepare to walk away 😳
After a frustrating campaign that saw Rangers F.C. finish third in the Scottish Premiership table, many supporters hoped the summer would mark the beginning of a fresh rebuild under new leadership.
Instead, concerns are now growing behind the scenes at Ibrox after two important members of the coaching structure reportedly submitted formal requests to leave the club within weeks of each other.
The first major shock involved assistant coach Matthias Kaltenbach.
Sources close to the club suggest Kaltenbach informed the Rangers hierarchy of his intention to step away shortly after the season entered its decisive stage. While the German coach remained fully committed to his duties during the closing weeks of the campaign, it is believed he had already privately decided that his future would lie away from Ibrox.
His request reportedly caught several figures inside the club off guard.
Kaltenbach had become an influential voice within the technical staff and was viewed by many at Rangers as a modern tactical coach capable of helping reshape the squad after an inconsistent season. Despite Rangers struggling for consistency domestically, there remained a belief internally that stability in the coaching department would be crucial heading into the summer rebuild.
That hope has now suffered another major setback.
Only weeks after Kaltenbach’s request became known internally, Steven Smith is also understood to have formally asked to leave his role at the club, creating even greater uncertainty around Rangers’ preparations for next season.
The development has intensified speculation that significant changes are unfolding behind the scenes at Ibrox following a campaign that fell far below expectations.
Finishing third in the league was already viewed by many supporters as unacceptable for a club of Rangers’ stature, particularly after failing to seriously challenge for the title during key stages of the season. But the possibility of losing two respected members of the coaching setup before the summer rebuild has only deepened fan frustration.
Supporters had expected incoming manager Danny Röhl to begin work with a stable structure around him as he prepares for his first full season in Scottish football. Instead, attention has quickly shifted toward uncertainty within the backroom staff and questions over how extensive the rebuild at Rangers may now become.
Several fans reacted angrily online after reports of Smith’s request emerged.
> “Third in the league and now the coaches are leaving too. This club needs a full reset.”
Another supporter wrote:
> “The rebuild hasn’t even started and already important people are walking away.”
Inside Scottish football, there is now growing curiosity over what direction Rangers will take next. The departures of both Kaltenbach and Smith would leave major gaps within the technical structure at a time when recruitment plans, tactical preparation, and squad evaluations are expected to intensify ahead of pre-season.
There is also pressure on the Rangers board to reassure supporters that the situation remains under control. After a difficult season on the pitch, fans were desperate for signs of stability and ambition going into the summer.
Instead, the atmosphere around Ibrox is becoming increasingly uneasy.
With Danny Röhl expected to oversee significant changes in the squad already, losing experienced figures behind the scenes could further complicate what is shaping up to be one of the most important summers in recent Rangers history.
